AGENDA

08:00 Registration and coffee

09:00 Opening welcome and keynote address

Saif Al Ghafli, Chief Executive Officer, ADNOC CONOCOPHILLIPS JOINT VENTURE

09:15 Business card exchange

09:30 Session One: Major sour gas projects in the region

Chairman: Adel Al Jaberi, Gas Engineering Manager, ABU DHABI COMPANY FOR ONSHORE OPERATIONS (ADCO)

  • Special focus: Shah Gas Development Project – A new frontier in sour gas processing

The Shah Gas Development (SGD) Project is the first development of a very sour gas field in Abu Dhabi. The well fluid contains approximately 10 mole % CO2 and 23 mole % H2S. The SGD Project is designed to treat and process about 1,000 MMscfd of this feed stream. This presentation will address how the sour nature of the produced gas, the large volumes of processed gas and produced sulphur will set a new benchmark for the gas processing and sulphur recovery industry.

  • Case study: Exploring the capabilities of the Rakgas processing plant and best practices for efficient project management – technical and logistical issues of sulphur recovery

Abdalla Al Muhairi, Deputy Senior Vice President, Projects, ABU DHABI GAS DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LIMITED (GASCO)
Naushad Kassamali, Technical Manager, ABU DHABI GAS DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LIMITED (GASCO)
Ruurd Abma, Chief Operating Officer, RAKGAS

10:40 Coffee break

11:10 Session two: Technologies, materials and processes for safe and efficient sulphur removal and acid gas injection

  • The challenge of deep COS removal: which options do we have? Assessing the different options of removing COS from gas streams with a focus on the removal in the acid gas removal unit
  • Native elemental sulphur in sour gas: characterisation and phase behaviour
  • Safety considerations for acid gas injection and transport

Nawid Kashani, Senior Process Manager, Gas Treatment Process Technology, BASF
Dr. Rob Marriott, Research Scientist and Project Manager, ALBERTA SULPHUR RESEARCH LTD.

12:20 Lunch

13:30 Session three: Sulphur management and transport

  • Technical and commercial considerations for sulphur management
  • Assessing various methods of transporting sulphur

Paul Davis, General Manager, ALBERTA SULPHUR RESEARCH LTD.
Geoffrey Chadwick, Managing Director, ILF CONSULTING ENGINEERS

14:45 Coffee break

15:15 Session four: Roundtable discussions

This session will be devoted to interactive open discussions providing the opportunity for informal information exchange and relationship building.

Each Roundtable Chairman will make a formal presentation to attendees, outlining the key themes and issues to be discussed at their table. Following the introductions, attendees will be invited to select a table of their choice.

Once the interactive discussions are complete, each Roundtable Chairman will provide a summary to all attendees highlighting the key points that came from the discussions.

TABLE ONE: Sulphur recovery versus re-injection

TABLE TWO: Hydrocarbon rich gas versus hydrocarbon lean gas and its impact on acid gas removal technology selection

Roundtable leader: Nawid Kashani, Senior Process Manager, Gas Treatment Process Technology, BASF

16:45 Close of meeting
