Adnan Abdul-Munaim Al-Janabi was born in Baghdad in 1940 and studied economics at London University gaining his MSc in petroleum technology at Loughborough University. He was in charge of relations with the IMF and World Bank at the Central Bank of Iraq from 1965-67, the Economist at the Iraqi National Oil Company until 1969 and  from 1970-74 he was head of Crude Oil Transportation and Crude Oil Marketing respectively at the INOC. He lectured at Baghdad University and was Advisor to the Ministry of Oil for 2 years before taking the role as head of Economics and Finance at OPEC. He then returned to the Ministry of Oil in Iraq as Director of Foreign Relations and Investment. From 1982 Mr Janabi was the CEO for several private sector companies and lectured at the National Institute for Administrative Development in Iraq. From 1996-2003 he was an Independent Member of the National Assembly in Iraq and Minister of State from 2004-5. From 2005-6 he was Member of The National Assembly, Chairman of the Finance Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee.

Since 2006 he has been President of the Iraq Center for Research and Studies. He has been the editor of the Economic Bulletin and Oil Bulletin for the Iraqi News Agency as well as publishing many significant papers on the theory of oil pricing and production, the theory of exhaustible resources plus other energy related articles published in both the US and the UK.
