I am delighted to welcome you to our 6th Annual Gas Arabia Summit, the region’s premier gas event, bringing together an exclusive gathering of high-level decision makers from GCC Governments, NOCs and private gas companies, plus IOCs and other international experts.

It is widely recognised that the Middle East holds over 40% of the world’s proven gas reserves, however with rising demands for domestic power, water, petrochemical and other gas intensive industries increasing substantially, the region’s ripe reserves currently appear destined for local use rather than capitalising upon the more lucrative export markets that can be found in the West and Asia.

‘Unconventionals’ are also growing in importance, particularly in the US, which continues to exploits its undeveloped shale and tight gas reserves.  Considered by many as ‘game changers’, it is widely anticipated that in a very short period of time, ‘unconventionals’ will start to influence global energy dynamics, supply and demands and country geopolitics.

Closer to home, we must not forget Iraq’s ambitious plans to boost its gas production and export its natural resources.  As their plans take shape, will we really see a shift in regional balances?

Despite the market changes highlighted, Europe continues to seek diversity for its growing need of gas supplies, leaving the Middle East a very real prospect to capitalise on this continued export opportunity.
