In The News: Jones Day wins “Law Firm of the Year” at the European Gas Awards of Excellence 2016

The global law firm Jones Day was recognized as “Law Firm of the Year” at the 5th annual European Gas Awards of Excellence 2016 at the 9th annual European Gas Conference, sponsored by The Energy Exchange. This year’s conference was attended by more than 350 key representatives from regional authorities and governments, as well as industry leaders from more than 80 gas producers and other energy-related companies.

The European Gas Awards of Excellence are awarded in five categories that recognize the dedication and excellence of individuals, companies, and law firms involved in the gas industry. The jury consisted of eight industry experts including Professor Jonathan Stern of the renowned Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and Doug Wood of the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET). Criteria for selection as “Law Firm of the Year” included making a positive difference to the industry, displaying a creative approach to both legal and business issues, and demonstrating vision and leadership in oil and gas law.

The jury recognized the breadth of Jones Day’s activities throughout the European gas market. The Firm has represented gas companies at different levels of the value chain in ground-breaking disputes arising from gas supply and gas storage agreements, has provided advice on antitrust and regulatory proceedings, and has represented clients in renegotiating long-term gas supply and EFET agreements and transactions. Jones Day also provides compliance advice on the new regulatory framework for the European gas industry. The jury also recognized Jones Day partners Dr. Johannes P. Willheim (Frankfurt) and Dr. Michael Bühler (Paris) for their representation of a leading global natural gas producer in connection with price revision arbitration proceedings that will shape long-term gas supply pricing agreements in the future.
